According to the New Jersey Devils official twitter account highly skilled left winger Ilya Kovalchuk has finally made a decision where he will play this upcoming year and it will be with the Devils.
No terms of the contract have been made available yet, and I will bring them to you as soon as they are known.
The New York Rangers took apart the Devils last night. In the first period alone the Rangers recorded 20 shots. The Devils only had 10 shots. But after the first period the score was still 0-0.
In the second period the wheels fell off for the Devils. At about 4 minutes into the second Brandon Dubinsky shot the puck into the net over a sprawling Brodeur. Just 2 minutes later Dan Girardi added his fourth of the season on a play where Brodeur wanted a call for goaltender interference but the replays clearly showed that Drury never even made contact with Brodeur. Brodeur even went as far as to drop his stick to try and sell the call. But the referee made of the few good desicions on a no-call. Then with 5 minutes left in the 2nd Ryan Callahan launched a shot over Brodeur’s right shoulder making it 3-0 Rangers. Rangers were outshot in the period 19-12.
In the third it was a penalty ridden period with 9 penalties being called, 7 minor penalties, 1-10 minute misconduct and 1 double-minor. Shots were 9-5 in favor of the Devils. Sean Avery was a big target for the Devils all night drawing more than one penalty.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist continued his stellar play against Brodeur, recording his 3rd shutout of the season and 20th of his career. Lundqvist lowered his GAA to 2.46 and raised his SV% to .915. He recored his 35th win of the season, two shy of his career high. He was named the first star of the game. Gomez was named the second star and Girardi was the third star.
